During the 2012 election, we saw the media bending over backwards to give Republicans cover by portraying a false equivalency between Republicans and Democrats. For example, even when they reported on a Romney lie, there was always an obligatory effort to suggest that the Obama campaign also lied on the same issue such as the coverage of Medicare and the comparison between Ryan's voucher care versus the savings in Medicare that Ryan himself has included in his budget.

Now, the new media talking point appears to be to blame Democrats for the craziness of Republicans. For example, why can't Democrats show enough leadership to convince Republicans to vote in their constituent's interests. Look at Maureen Dowd's essay that blamed President Obama for Republican instransience saying that President Obama must bear the blame for failing to "lead" Republicans on an issue that has 90 percent support? Really?

It is not like Republicans are a bunch of kids with aspergers who needs accomodations for their lack of social skills. When a politician, any politician, decides to ignore the needs of his or her constituents they need to own it. Can you imagine during the Reagan era if Democrats decided to ignore public opinion and blaming Reagan for failing to "lead"?

The bottom line is that unless Republicans are held accountable for their own actions, nothing will change. Allowing the media to give them cover by blaming Democrats for their intransience simply gives them a free pass.
