It's the same. Your mother is from Naples - the Calabrese would consider that the South.
I have a friend whose family came from a Rome when she was a little girl and her eyebrows literally shot up when I told her where my then boyfriend was from.
If anything - the 'look down our nose at the poor Southerners' snottyness has actually gotten better the past 15/20 years according to my husband. Especially the past few years where they all have to pull together.
All I know is in Acri - my house on the hill? My husband's 'town' of 40K - I'm treated with kindness, respect, and curiousity.
