No-one has been saying in this thread "I believe they were spies, but they should have been let go". The main doubt is about whether what they got was a fair trial, since nothing was known about it before they were hanged. Several people have suggested that they might not have been spies at all, but that it was used as a convenient way to get rid of 2 Iranians their government wanted to get rid of. Some have said "Iran is bound to get angry because of the way the US/Israel treats it".

So, no, the DU reaction really can't be compared to the Pollard situation at all. He got a fair trial. He's still alive.
