DENVER In Colorado Springs Tuesday night, some 800 people showed up at a fundraiser organized by the Independence Institute in support of its lawsuit challenging the states new gun control laws.
(snip)
But the lawsuit, which was filed earlier this month on behalf of 55 of Colorados 62 elected sheriffs, is mostly being funded not by grassroots donations but by the biggest Second Amendment rights group in the world:

Another "grassroots" effort brought to you by one of the largest contributors to campaigns
for Republicans or
against Democrats
in existence.
In its right-wing campaign efforts alone, the NRA outspends the
Club for Growth, Koch Industries and Wal-Mart -- and this is completely apart from its
lobbying spending.
By any measure it is a completely
bug-nuts knuckledragging conservative cesspool, built from the ground up to not merely give a voice to gun owners, but to work to elect
more Republicans and fewer Democrats -- by a huge margin (74:1, if you're counting).
They're buying our Democracy with direct donations in excess of $1 million annually EACH from companies like
Smith & Wesson,
Beretta,
Ruger, and
nearly every other manufacturer of arms and ammunition on the planet. Plus
$21 million per year in ad sales for its
print magazine.
"Grassroots" my ass.
