3. I'm interested in how this plays out

I want to see how this truly "holy" man addresses the gays in the Catholic church hierarchy reality. I really do believe he is more holy than either Jon Paul II and of course more holy than Ratzinger.

Back in the day, becoming a priest was a respectable occupation for a man who would never marry. Not interested in girls--"Oh, I have a calling to the Lord". It was a safe place for gay men. Many of the people in power at the Vatican would have come from a generation where not being married by age 20 was a sign of something terribly wrong. They chose the priesthood to explain things to their family.

So, there are lots of gay priests holding positions of power. Pope Francis doesn't really care if someone is gay but probably believes that gay people should never express their love in physical form. How does a guy that says don't shun a pregnant unmarried girl even though she broke the rules, "clean" up the gay lobby without saying we should shun all gay priests? He would have to pin it down to kicking out gay priests who are not celibate and then that would open the door for kicking out straight priests who are not celibate. That is a lot of priests who have slipped in their faith.

To be truly fair he would have to figure out a way to say, "God forgives all priests who have broken their vow of celibacy if they are truly repentant", so there isn't really a win there as to purging only gay priests.

As gay men don't have to explain to their families why they aren't interested in girls there will be less and less gay men in the Catholic church. So it seems the gay lobby will die out over time.

I'm not sure why he would even mention it unless he had some plan that I don't see.
