TRENTON Incoming Hudson County Democratic Chairman Vincent Prieto says he is backing local Assemblyman Jason ODonnell in the ongoing civil war for state party chairman.
Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Barbara Buono wants ODonnell to be the next state party chairman, but powerful forces in the party such as powerbroker George Norcross and state Senate President Stephen Sweeney (D-Gloucester) want veteran state Sen. Raymond Lesniak (D-Union).
<>
Last week, more than three dozen Democrats aligned with Norcross and Sweeney publicly backed Lesniak as part of a public campaign to create an air of inevitability around choice. Sweeney has called O'Donnell divisive, alluding to to O'Donnell's relationship with Assemblyman Joe Cryan (D-Union) and the pair's attempt to oust leadership in 2010.
