As to your question, I believe the rapist should receive a life sentence without possibility of parole, although this story infuriates me to the extent that it makes me consider capital punishment. Seeing that the mother has only been charged with 2nd degree murder, I hope she gets the maximum - youth, lack of intelligence & criminal record notwithstanding. Unless she has a learning or mental disability that renders her on a par with a 6-year-old child, she must have had some idea of how horrific her crime was.

As for rehabilitation, I consider the rapist a lost cause. The mother? Possibly, although I have little confidence in the penal system to provide what's necessary for her.
