(7,658 posts)20. Maybe a stupid question, but why do they have to close if they just refuse to?
Of course, the authorities would force them physically, but the eyes of the nation witnessing mass arrests of doctors and nurses all over Texas could be a huge galvanizing moment much like the civil rights struggle when America was forced to confront the reality of Jim Crow at it's most brutal. Yes, these people would have a lot to lose by doing that, maybe their freedom even (i.e. jail) ,but what if Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King had just said, oh well, I guess we have to obey the segregation laws? There comes a time of such importance for the entire nation and its future, that masses of people have to stand up and say finally, NO...no more,and make it so America can't turn its head away from what these forces of darkness are doing any longer.
