(19,114 posts)17. And as it happens, Juries are not made up of legal experts.
Which can result jury decisions that don't make any sense by strict legal logic.
I was on a jury recently and we unanimously agreed the defendant deserved penalties.
We checked the item that seemed to state that.
We found out after the trial was over that the legal meaning was exactly opposite of what we thought so we had actually voted NOT to assign penalties.
Our legal system is pretty screwy.

I just don't want Zimmerman anywhere outside a prison for AT LEAST 10 years.

And I recently read that it can be 'up to 30 years' for manslaughter with a gun in Florida.

I just looked it up and if I'm not mistaken it said mandatory 25 years to life, minimum 25
