I hate it the way we are militarizing our police forces. SWAT teams are way overused by local police forces and in many cases the resources would be better spent on hiring and training officers who can do community policing which defuses situations before they get out of hand. And there is something about a couple of police officers rolling up on bicycles which calms things down rather than in a cruiser with sirens and lights going every which way. You can buy a lot of police bikes for the cost of one cruiser let alone an armored vehicle. Oh yes, it is "okay" because it is Federal grant money. But we don't have enough money to hire more teachers, nurses, social workers, firefighters and police officers. What is wrong with this picture?
