Putin is, above all else, a thug.

As the leader of the worlds largest thugocracy there is a certain admiration by some here because he doesn't bother with the niceties of comity, debate and other niceties of democratic culture.

On the other hand they equally despise a President who not only pursues liberal policies but also tries to rehabilitate the democratic spirit with comity, debate and engaging in ideological opponents.
