Photos of a young John and Jacqueline Kennedy just months after their wedding have been put up for auction, showing the early years of Americas most famous first couple. Photographer Orlando Suero was a staffer for Three Lions Picture Agency and he pitched the idea of following around the couple for a week to see what their life was really like.
The resulting collection of photos, now being sold by RR Auction, show some candid and intimate moments for the couple. The power couple is seen posing on the steps of the Capitol, but the more unscripted moments- like when Jackie adjusts John's tie before a gala or when she sits in a classroom at Georgetown University- are the ones that stand out the most.
Their wedding in September 1953 gained national attention and the chance to capitalize on that popularity was seen as a keen public relations move in Kennedy's strategic mind.
The collection of photos on sale at show them smiling adoringly at one another, with Jackie at his side while he does work from home, holding hands while walking down the cobbled sidewalks of Georgetown, and climbing the steps to the Capitol as a prelude to the role that politics would play in their legacies.
