Hamas began as a Muslim charitable and religious organization. It was favored by Israel over the Palestinian nationalistic and secular leftist PLO. Hamas grew out of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood, and it has always been Sunni.

Hezbollah began among the Lebanonese Shiites during the '82 Israeli invasion, and it has always been supported by Iran and its fellow Shiites.

Hamas and Hezbollah only coooperate on a "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" basis given their religious differences.
