I was on the phone talking to someone from ebay.com a few minutes ago and suddenly a huge earthquake hit.
I advised the young woman that was panicking badly to get under a doorway and brace herself.
You could here all of this thumping and screaming and it went on and on and suddenly the line went dead!!
My god, I think it was India -- not sure; seems it was the Philippines, I stand corrected!
In any event, you could here the thumping, the shaking, etc. and wow, I hope where ever this was, that everyone there is safe.
I'm sure it will be on the news momentarily!!!
Stay safe people wherever you are!!!
YIKES.

Thank you. I keep seeing the doorway thing and that is outdated. Table or desk is best.

Best thing to do, recommended thing, is to get under a table or desk. Poor people.

22 miles deep. wouldn't that depth mitigate some of the destructive potential?

Yes, I hope so too except the OP heard what sounded like damage and then the line cutoff.

Depth recalculated to 57 km vs initially at 33, good news, fewer expected fatalities.
