25. If you don't understand why calling a woman a slut has its own special horror

then it would be a very good idea for you to talk to some women. There's no equivalent for men, a fact that in itself says it all. A woman who's called a slut or a prostitute experiences a sense of danger, of being treated like a piece of meat with no value, who can be done with as men see fit. Trust me on this. Times have changed some, but in a world where women are raped as an act of war and possession, and are burned alive, stoned, mutilated, and so forth for a simple accusation of being in control of their own sex lives, where in this country I personally can remember when back alley abortions ripped out the uteruses of teenaged girls who were afraid of being called sluts by their families and communities, using that language is nothing, NOTHING like calling Joe the Plumber an idiot and a liar.
