I suspect that the vast majority are very skilled mathematicians and computer scientists - from my knowledge of people like that, I suspect that many are libertarian and many are moderates in either party. I still remember that in my town, the vast majority of people who canvassed and phonebanked for McGovern were Bell Labs employees!
