In reply to the discussion: Reid Announces Opposition to 'Fast Track' on Trade [View all]Tom Rinaldo
(23,198 posts)63. Yes. That is my strong sense of him too
He seems like a good man. While I fervently wish we had a Democratic Senate Majority that would embrace the leadership of someone more like Sherrod Brown, that is not the current reality. With the number of blue and bluish dog Senators in the Democratic caucus, and the need for Democrats to always maintain unity in the Senate in order to have any hope of shutting down constant Republican filibusters. I think Reid on the whole has been a good leader. He has been encouraging of late; with the partial filibuster reform, with blocking a new sanctions against Iran vote, and now with this statement in particular.

How I have longed for a principled leader who would say, "No fast track, not ever for either party."

Thank god. I'd been told our corporate overlords had it greased to sail through without review.
