deeply resent the fact that other gay people find happiness, while they themselves flushed their lives down the toilette. I'm very certain this basic scenario describes the mentality of the catholic hierarchy. Nothing else explains the energy which they choose to devote to this issue to the exclusion of so much else. If someone is aware of large catholic organized political efforts on other issues, such as against poverty, war, the death penalty, that is as persistent and visible as the constant efforts they devote to bashing gays, then I'd love to see it.

Honestly, does anyone think that the catholic church will be a looming presence in this campaign, reminding republicans that it's sinful to be a tool of the wealthy? Of course not. But announce a gay rights initiative anywhere and any time, and you'll have the local Bishop on the phone within the hour. And letters will be read out to the sheep every sunday reminding them that God Hates Fags.
