In reply to the discussion: Christie Knew About Bridge Lane Closings, Port Authority Official Says [View all]brett_jv
(1,245 posts)Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that Christie knowing that the lanes were closed during the time they were closed would not in any way prove he was responsible for ordering them closed.
To me it seems like most everyone in this thread is dancing a jig over ... nothing all that incriminating.
Somebody set me straight ... WHY does it matter if he knew the lanes were closed at the time? Won't he just say that he assumed they were closed cause of some traffic study ... that he had nothing to do with? If he wasn't involved in ordering it, we got nothing 'on him' ... do we?
I mean, I GUESS it's a lie if he said in his press conference he didn't know they were closed while it was actually going on, but ... it's not like a press conference is under oath, and it's not illegal to know that some lanes are closed for a bridge.
Seems he could just backtrack and say something like 'ooops, that's right, I guess I was vaguely aware, but I just forgot that I'd heard about it, it never registered to me as important, I just dismissed it as a traffic study and moved on with my busy job' or some shit like that.
After all, he does have an (R) by his name, so everyone pretty much assumes he's an forgetful and incompetent nincompoop, and will probably forgive him if it's just his stupidity in play, like we did with * for 8 years.
Bottom-line the only way he's really nailed is if he ordered it. Knowing they were closed doesn't amount to squat, much as we'd like it to.
