31. Scrutinizing your marriage license

You live in a state that allows gay marriage and move to one which bans it. You need a driver's license in the new state. They want to see your old license, BC, and Marriage License. Clerk has to carefully check out that ML to see if you are married to a member of the opposite sex. Same sex marriage? Clerk will not give you a driver's license with your married name. This is already happening in Florida.

I recently had to renew my Driver's License. I married to a man 40 years ago in NY, but since NY recognizes gay marriage, I knew that clerk would be checking names for gender. Screw you, you are NOT getting my ML. If you won't recognize ALL NY marriages, I will not show you mine. I gave them my Passport instead. None of your business WHO I am married to. TRY not taking a Federal document for ID.

This is just a very MINOR problem that is happening right now. Others issues are far worse. My daughter had to have emergency surgery. Fortunately, she is in NY where her wife can be at her side and if something happened, can make medical decisions for her. If she and her wife were here in Florida? They would be considered TOTAL STRANGERS. They need to see an attorney and have legal documents drawn up for Health Proxy and POA if they travel to a state that won't recognize their marriage? That is absurd, and insulting.

Do these stupid, bigoted congress critters understand any of these repercussions? They don't care.
