If we embrace the absurd notion that Asians with close ties with America (Japanese in this case) are white by association, then surely that principle must apply to all those of us who are actual US citizens. I was trying to be funny but sometimes DU can be a tough crowd.

Racial insensitivity is pretty much the point. There can be no doubt that Japanese people are offended by such a stereotypical argument. I was hoping my metaphor would help convey that point.
