The police dispersed them near the end of November. The protesters fought back, defending themselves against police repression, on 1st of December. It was calm thereafter. It wasn't until the Jan 16 anti-protest law was illegally passed that things got tense again and the Maidan protesters started building barricades and arming themselves with medieval era type implements (certainly no heavy guns).
Had there been no crackdown we'd still be watching a video feed of people standing around in the cold smoking... but Crimea probably wouldn't have been annexed. I wouldn't be surprised if we find out in the end that Right Sector was being paid to instigate by Russian elements.
