What universe do these people live in?

In this day and age, what worker would cut his income by 25% by reducing his hours from 40 to 30 hours, just because he could be covered either way? Not to mention an employee doesn't really have the power to dictate to his/her employer how many hours he is needed to that business.

Unbelievable.
