Look at Jim Carrey. He started out as the really weird guy on "In Living Color" and did "Ace Ventura" but then went on to do serious roles like "The Truman Show" and "The Majestic".

Some people never break out of the roll that made them famous and this role is of someone with a LOT of negative characteristics I'm sure he will be happy to leave behind.
