Southern Pacific was sued by the Santa Clara County for damages and public property violations, to which S.P. refused to pay, so Santa Clara County brought suit only to have it dismissed by the Court based on discrimination of personhood or S.P.'s claim to the 14th Amendment of all things.. which as turns out, was a clerical error but has held as "case precedent" ever since, none the less. The history of big business usurping public property with impunity as outlined in your post above should have been held to account so long ago, but we continue to be victimised by the corruption of the political toadies beholden to the Big Business along with their useful idiots, like Bundy et al.
