Take over, borrow and spend, run up debt. That way they are the 'good guys' of low taxes and free money flowing to wherever their ideologies direct it. Then Democrats end up with their mess and have to cut spending plus raise taxes. Republicans come back to find the books not so much in the red as they had left them. Wash, rinse, repeat.
