If we had a Democratic primary between a real progressive candidate and an establishment one in an open primary state, and republican voters swung the nomination to the latter, many of us would be upset. Although crossover voting would be legal, I would not like the idea that republicans had possibly played a critical role in keeping the real progressive from being our candidate.

That said, it is great that the "crazier-than-thou" republican did not win their nomination and their intraparty freakout burns hotter than ever.

Closed primaries undoubtedly have their share of problems, too, which may be why states seem to be getting away from them.
