(68,868 posts)They live in prosperity and security, and they have complete dominion over the Palestinians.
But, that is a very short-sighted approach. Because the status quo is always ephemeral.
Long-term, Israel will face a very, very real question of whether it wants to be a bi-national single state, or adopt apartheid on a formal basis. 50 more years of occupation will cement their dominion over the Palestinians as a de facto annexation, and treated by the entire planet as such. Especially when the total number of Arabs living in the occupied territories plus Israel exceeds the number of Jews.
So, Israel will be faced with signing itself out of existence by granting Palestinians the right to vote and full legal equality, or becoming a deservedly hated apartheid pariah state in much the same capacity that South Africa was in the 1980s.
At which point BDS will become the policy of the rest of the planet, including the United States.
Israel has the short-term advantages, but long-term it cannot survive in its current form.
