(68,868 posts)Giving up the West Bank--including the border with Jordan--and giving Palestinians control over their own borders, their own airspace, own groundwater--and evicting settlers who would be on the other side of the negotiated line--no stomach for that in Israel.
Heck, Israel isn't even willing to pause its construction of new settlements.
As you said, Israel is perfectly fine with the status quo. It takes leadership to get a country to address the problems of the future--something Israel does not have.
Hamas is Hamas, perpetually insane and violent.
Abbas is playing the long game. He goes along with the US negotiations that neither side has any interest in, but he's less looking at a negotiated settlement than the end game of a single-state solution. What he will never, ever get on the negotiating table the Palestinians will get through time and demographics.
