Last year the Israelis ransomed an Israeli soldier held by the PLO with more than one thousand Arab terrorists held in Israeli prisons - many of them openly bragging about how they murdered Israeli civilians. The immediate reaction was that many thousands of Israeli soldiers promptly submitted letters making clear that if they were captured, they wanted the govt to make no concessions, release no terrorists, on their behalf.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hamas captured an Israeli soldiers - in fact, considering the magnitude of the militiary operation, capturing only one is a sign of a huge failure. But since Hamas has announced it, the rest of the world can see if Hamas complies with the Geneva Convention. Israel might well adopt a policy of not negotiating until all their men are returned.

If Hamas were at war with US Marines they'd really be screwed; the Marines will launch assaults to retrieve the cold bodies of dead comrades.
