. . . and really, haven't we always been dishonest with ourselves when it comes to executing people? When they were carried out in public, executioners typically wore hoods. As I understand it, even in most lethal injection setups, the person who actually starts the flow of drugs typically cannot see the condemned prisoner. (I think it was like that with the electric chair as well).
