Imagine you're going to debate someone who is taking the position that the United States is a de facto dictatorship. Assume this is a learned person who debates rationally, basing his or her arguments on documented facts, not a rabblerouser who tosses off spurious sound bites. Now, in your mind, marshal your arguments, especially the ones you'll need to refute your opponent's statements.

How's that thought experiment going?
