they stole it from Iraqi Army warehouse stocks when the Iraqi Army pretty much deserted in the face of the ISIS advance, most of the heavy armor is American supplied/American made, M-1A1 main battle tanks, APC's, up armored Humvees, Artillery, etc., so in essence, we're fighting our own equipment.
