(14,733 posts)There's basically no realistic way to completely 'secure' a border, which is exactly why Republicans demand it as a precursor to any sort of immigration reform. It's undoable. Drug runners routinely make it across the border, so sure, they could smuggle in terrorists, too.
As to violent crimes by illegals, are they proportional to violent crimes committed on a per capita basis by folks born here? Are there any statistics that show that people who actually cross the border to stay (not simply drug runners, who go back and forth) are committing crimes at a greater rate than native-born Americans? If anything, I'd think that they A) commit fewer crimes, since they can't afford to be caught and deported, and B) are more often the VICTIMS of crimes committed by American criminals, for the same reason - they can't afford to go to the police when victimized.
