In reply to the discussion: James Foley, Missing American Photojournalist, Reportedly Beheaded By ISIS In Syria [View all]freshwest
(53,661 posts)113. Different things inspire different people, true. For example:

There was a much longer story with pictures of a who drifting about in his life in the USA, who just wanted to find some relevance in his life, I guess and went to Syria. He had no ideology, just a chance to use guns and 'do something' and got into a gang like ISIS. But I don't remember how the story ended. I think he was vet, and wanted to be a mercenary. Whether he'd do something here is another matter. Since he wasn't in the service of another nation, he might not have fit in the category of supplying aid to 'an enemy.' But this is why some things that are much hated are being done abroad to those who just nilly willy join up with a cause. Like Johnny Jihad, I think there are some serious psychological issues going on with all of this. Or at least one might want to excuse it that way, and then again... this is just a barbaric way of thinking and living. And not compatible with any kind of peace we would recognize. Just a few thoughts snaggle... Haven't seen many posts from you lately, hope all is well with you.

Do you believe that no one should engage ISIS, or just that the US shouldn't engage ISIS?

If a terrorist Christian group performed similar actions, I'm sure people would call them subhuman

Anyone of any persuasion who is willing to cut off another human being's head is a subhuman thug.
