Emissions from 50's automobiles are still in the atmosphere. And, with the rapidly increasing rate of methane being released from melting permafrost, we may well be at the point where, even if we were to cut CO2 emissions to zero today, the feedback loop would insure that it keeps going. The arctic ocean is predicted to be completely ice free in the summer beginning next year. (Summer is the only season that matters in the arctic because that's the only season it receives sunlight.)
