In reply to the discussion: Pat Buchanan: Immigrants A 'Greater Threat' Than ISIS [View all]freshwest
(53,661 posts)32. Baldwin ended his debate with Buckley in 1965 with these words:
It is a terrible thing for an entire people to surrender to the notion that one-ninth of its population is beneath them. Until the moment comes when we, the Americans, are able to accept the fact that my ancestors are both black and white, that on that continent we are trying to forge a new identity, that we need each other, that I am not a ward of America, I am not an object of missionary charity, I am one of the people who built the countryuntil this moment comes there is scarcely any hope for the American dream. If the people are denied participation in it, by their very presence they will wreck it. And if that happens it is a very grave moment for the West.
How many like Pat are going to have to learn the hard way?
Many whites are bitter about what they consider unjust losses financially. What did they expect?
Pat has said many times that he fears for western civilization. Even the royal family of the UK has said those days are past.
If Pat was truly concerned about saving what good has been, they better heed Baldwin's words there.
It's the truth. And it has a power of its own, that cannot be stopped.

Note he is talking about all immigration, not just 'illegal immigrants'. Shows the real right-wing

Apparently, the real danger for Buchanan is that these immigrants would vote for Democrats.

Well unless immigrants account for all music sales currently in the US I hardly see them to blame

And the GOP wonders why everybody sees it as being the Party of Lily Whites.
