In reply to the discussion: President Obama tried to get a tee time at New York golf courses, got turned down [View all]He would not have been able to play at my club either. The secret service clears most of the course and searches members and staff the day the POTUS plays. I support my president but would be beyond upset if I couldn't play at my club because ANY non-member bumped me. Country clubs are not like a gym membership; members are financially responsible for the club. If revenue drops, all members receive an assessment to make it up. Because of the slow economy, we are currently in the middle of a $300 per month of a one year assessment period. This is a large expense for my family, but because of the industry I am in it is needed to generate and retain clients. If I pay my dues, food and beverage minimums, golf fees, and assessments on top of it. No one is bumping me from the course. I would love the idea of our president playing at my club, but not so much that I am willing to subsidize his visit by an assessment to make up the lost revenue he caused.
Before the cries of "racist country club" are lobbed, our membership coordinator and tennis pro are African American, not that it does or should matter.

Did he try Bethpage? I bet someone at this NY STATE PARK course would find a way to squeeze him in.

How he manages to carry on in the midst of constant obstruction and disrespect is beyond me.

Thanks. I tried to find a link when Eisenhower was denied a tee time but didn't have the time.

Not only that, but it would have been a feather in their cap to have Obama play there.
