(1,067 posts)I do play golf and I live in the DC area so I have some knowledge regarding these things. First of all they do not shut the course down for the day although the Secret Service would like to do that they understand the reality of the situation. What they will do is create a cap between the President and the group in front and behind so that no one is slowing him up or pushing him. They will also scan the golfers and their bags as they arrive at the course for their rounds. The courses in question simply did not want the hassle of dealing with this on a busy holiday weekend. The President recently made a stop at Great Falls Park in Fairfax County Virginia. He wanted some quite time with his oldest daughter and the park only got 45 minutes notice that the President would be coming. A friend of mine is a National Park Ranger and they were simply told to keep quiet about the visit. They were never told by the advance team to clear the park, they were only told to make sure that the entrance to the park was kept clear. I am so tired of this whole golf thing. The President plays golf so people should get over it. Does anyone think for a minute that he is not in communication with his National Security team and that if an event occurred that he wouldn't leave the course immediately. The man deserves some down time.
