I knew people from that area, we used to talk daily. They see Syria and Iran as related by blood to Russia. They met Putin after the Beslan massacre where they lost family as children. He helped train them in self-defense. I haven't heard from them for years. They want a return to the empire, monarchy and Orthodox Christianity.
