I am well aware that this is extremely complex. However, just a few days ago the common wisdom was that no one in the Middle East was on board -- even though ANYONE could have watched the UN on CSPAN and seen their representatives talking there.

What surprises me is that NOTHING that happens ever makes you doubt Putin - even when he lies to his people and secretly buries the Russian dead - who died in places that he said they weren't. You wonder how betrayed the men asked to do this feel or the families of those who died.

I KNOW what at least one American, who fought in Vietnam thought of being sent to neutral Cambodia -- because he spoke of it 2 decades later as a Senator, when the issue was the covert support of the Contras. He is now Secretary of State -- and I trust him a lot more than the former head of the KGB.
