One of the problems with the Olympics is that nations spend massive amounts of money to build these facilities, and then they just get abandoned or torn down afterward. It's a huge waste of money. It would make more sense to let the cities of the world compete to host the Olympics on a rotating basis over an extended number of years. When the facilities in one nation finally do wear out and need replacement, that nations spot can be opened back up so that all the cities of the world can compete for it again.
If, as an example, three cities were chosen to host the Summer Olympics, each city would get to host it once every 12 years. Presuming that the facilities lasted 50-60 years or so, that would give each city 4-5 Olympic games to recoup its investment.
