From Soviet-style socialism to abject monarchism, we look for strong leaders to vicariously give us pride and power.

A kind of narcissism is behind ODS. Just as it's behind the "Obama Adulation Syndrome" some have. It's the same as with RDS and the RAS--the Reagan Derangement Syndrome and Reagan Adulation Syndrome. (Of course, if you like Obama, the DSM only includes ODS and RAS because OAS and RDS can only be symptoms of sanity.)
