In reply to the discussion: Police shoot man who stabbed student in synagogue [View all]christx30
(6,241 posts)178. How would you solve it?
Pretend you're a cop. Guy is holding a knife at you or your partner. He looks like he can move fast. What kind of tool would you work that would A, stop him nearly instantly, before he could harm you or your friend, and B, not harm him at all?
Tranqs are too slow and unreliable, unless you think he would consent to be weighed, and give you the time to do the math for the dosage.
Tazers can cause heart attacks and burns.
Flashbangs can work to stun the suspect, but only if you aren't in the same room as him. Also can cause burns
Tackling might work. If you can avoid being stabbed.
Pepperspray? Would you object to that?
You could try to sweet talk the murderous guy. See if you can get him to peacefully surrender.

This individual was actually armed. And wasn't afraid to use his knife, obviously.

Because trick shots like that outside of movies are completely unrealistic.

i don't follow the logic that justice is lowering oneself to the level of a 'killer'

SO.. no documentation, given the power of google, bing, etc, that shows 'shoot to wound' training?!?

There's no such thing as a "good shoot" when a fellow human being is killed.

Ok guy stabs a guy he didn't know in the head, while screaming "I will kill the Jew"

I, too, don't like it when cops kill people, although whether they are local is irrelevant.

Because then you'd be back here to complain "Why is this guy in jail?"

Dosage is the issue. Not enough? Little effect. A smidge too much? Respiratory Paralysis. (Dead.)

Yet another case of the police killing a black man. When will all this madness stop? n/t

If a white guy had done the same thing, do you believe the police would have shot him too?

I'm going to speculate wildly here and suggest that his motive was a desire to kill Jews. (nt)
