In reply to the discussion: N.J. police union blames 'hatred aimed at officers' after 2 NYPD cops killed [View all]avebury
(11,196 posts)What I am saying is that the anger of the NYPD and Union is displaced due to their failure to acknowledge the actions of out of control thugs in the NYPD do play a role in how the public react to them. If you continue to allow thugs to run amok in NYC there will be consequence and not always the type you might want. Proper consequence is to hold out of control police thugs accountable for their actions and not protecting them. Failure to do so is a failure to meet their mission statement to protect and serve the public.
There is more then one type of consequence to an action and sometimes it has horrific impact on others, in this case the two cops killed yesterday.
Which is the better consequence? To weed out the police thugs and prosecute them accordingly and thus restore the honor of the NYPD while regaining the trust of the people? Or to cover up police misdeeds, conduct a war on the masses to meet artificial quotas and come across like a Fascist police force, the result of which is that THEY end up creating additional peril to every officer on the force?
It is terrible that these two officers died. However, the NYPD and their union are wrong to place the blame on DeBlasio and Holder when the greater share of the blame resides within their own house. They have given no indication that they have any plans of ever cleaning their own house. Like it or not, there will continue to be incidents like yesterday.
As Albert Einstein said: The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
