Mr Camerons decision came in a response to a letter from John Mann, the Labour MP who wrote to all party leaders last month urging them to put all other considerations aside and urgently uncover and pass on any information relating to child abuse in your political party.
In particular every living Whip needs to be questioned by their party on any evidence or rumours that were circulating at the time.
Mr Mann said in the letter, sent on December 4, that there were police inquiries on going into a number of former Members of Parliament, with at least 22 names alleged to have been involved.
Mr Mann made reference to a 1995 BBC interview with Tim Fortescue, a Tory whip from 1970 to 1973, in which he mentioned Parliamentary scandals involving small boys that the Whips office would help to cover up.
