Just trying to protect her family, who as Phyllis Pena from Lake Jackson, Texas said, “They’re my everything. My kids are my life,” is exactly what she did when she returned from the store at 7:00am to see a man peeping in her 15-year-old daughters window.

At that point he had already jimmied the window latch, with the intention of entering. She honked the horn, jumped out of her car and ran towards the perv. He bolted and ran down the street.

Phyllis called the cops, who arrived in minutes, and searched for the man. They parked in front of her house and started searching on foot, and as he walked from behind a house and down the street a block over, they gave chase.

He ran back in the direction of the Pena house. He saw Phyllis and her daughter in the front yard but thought getting by them would not pose a problem.

He was mistaken.

Phyllis was in Mom Mode.

She had some abrasions to her knees, “Concrete and shorts don’t mix very well”, she said with a laugh. “The cop fist-bumped me and he was like, ‘Hey, so I heard the Texans are looking for a new linebacker.’” The Police Chief, Paul Kibodeaux, sent an email saying that he wanted to give her a commendation, a thanks...and a job application.
