Depression and cognition
One can be cognitively alert and still depressed.

While cognitive issues may be a symptom of depression, it is just one of many potential symptoms. Seems rather disingenuous to cherry pick one symptom and then dismiss the disorder entirely. Depression is complicated.

Never mind that SAD isn't limited to winter. There is spring and summer SAD too. The clue is in the name Seasonal Affective Disorder.
