A Message to Europe, Punch the bully in the nose [View all]

Julie Roginsky

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is right — just not in the way he thinks.

“Peace through strength. Make [Greenland] part of the United States and there will not be a conflict because the United States right now, we’re the hottest country in the world, we’re the strongest country in the world. Europeans project weakness. The U.S. projects strength,’ he said on Meet the Press yesterday.

The premise embedded in that statement is that Europe is weak and America is strong. The reality is more unsettling: Europe is projecting weakness not because it lacks power, but because it keeps trying to pacify Donald Trump instead of standing up to him.

Trump reads that instinct perfectly. He always has.
