I'm not sure on the police officers, but I know that airlines who are hiring pilots screen for people who don't need people. Yeah, there are people like that, and I think the trait is referred to as "need to be close to others," and this even includes their wife and kids.

I think you can see why they would want that trait, as extensive periods away from family members probably causes a lot of new pilots to resign. If they can screen them out with a personality profile, they can save a lot of money/time on recruiting, administrative, etc.

I learned about this from a person who administered such profiles for corporations.

This part of my post is not pertinent to the overall point of the thread, but as a side comment, I would just like to say that I think there are probably some very fine people who have that trait. In other words, just because a person is low on this need doesn't mean they are a bad person. I'll bet, for example, Chesley Sullenberger, the airline pilot who landed so spectacularly safely in NY a few New Years ago, is probably one of those types of people. I am getting this from reading his book, published a year or so after the flight landing.

But back to the police officers. I know one trait police officers exhibit can be described as a world view. When they look at a situation it is with the slant of "What's wrong with this picture?"

It's an interesting question and one I would like answered, too.
